Human Scale Education conference -‘Relationships within Education’ 16 June, Lincoln
This is an open conference and welcomes participants from all sectors who have an active interest in modern education.
Following feedback from last year’s conference we are pleased to offer a full day event with two inspirational keynote speakers, and more opportunities for facilitated group discussions.
Dr Rob Loe of the Relational Schools team will explore the ways in which schools can design and build relational school systems.“Relationships are the very foundations of a school and, says Glasser (1986), they precede effective learning. In other words, we must learn to meet…because we must meet to learn. This is not incidental: a school must be intentional about the way it encourages, nurtures and sustains effective relationships. It has clear implications at practitioner and whole school system levels.”
David Taylor, Headteacher at Stanley Park High School (winner of TES 2016 Secondary School of the Year Award) returns to explore the ills of the current education system. He describes how his mainstream secondary school has found a different way and developed structures around the primacy of relationships. He will specifically highlight why approaches to assessment, recording and reporting are often the stumbling block and prevent productive relationships for learning.
Conference places cost £10 per person and can be booked on this link: http://www.bishopg.ac.uk/events/hseconference2017/ .
We are also pleased to announce that we will be holding HSE’s Annual General Meeting after the conference at 4pm. You are very welcome to stay behind if you are interested in becoming a member. If you would like to be nominated as an HSE Trustee please email robin.precey@canterbury.ac.uk stating why you would like to be on the board and what you feel you have to offer (to arrive by Friday 9th June).
We do hope to see you at our second annual conference.
Many thanks.
With very best wishes
