ROLAND MEIGHAN FUNERAL AND CONDOLENCES
CPE / PEN News and Comment, E-briefing · Tagged: CPE, CPE-PEN, Dr Roland Meighan, PEN, Prof Roland Meighan, Roland Meighan
It was a wet and windy day in Nottingham on 12.01.2014 for Roland’s funeral but the warmth of his send off was assured for this most well-loved, respected academic and educator. There was a splendid turn out from family, friends, ex-colleagues and the educational networks to which he belonged.
Common themes were rehearsed by all who attended and expressed their condolences in writing or phone. Roland was not only a kind, humane, humorous and generous man he was a great educator, a freethinking educational heretic who communicated very effectively to a broad audience.
His legacy is immense and he leaves the educational world with a comprehensive range of ideas that can transform the face of the educational landscape and the way we live our lives. CPE-PEN will continue to promote, reinterpret and explain this legacy.
Janet Meighan has asked me to pass on her heartfelt thanks to all who were able to attend the funeral and to all those who have communicated their condolences. She has been overwhelmed by the tributes and thoughts expressed and has taken great comfort from them. She hopes you will appreciate it may be some time before she can respond to these.
