North Yorkshire Libraries will be celebrating the annual summer reading challenge in unique style this July with NYMAZ Musical Storytimes. Five sets of professional musicians from Live Music Now have each chosen a book which is inspired by this year’s theme of Quest Seekers, and between them will be running workshops in every part of the region in just one week.
From Settle to Scarborough and from Stokesley to Sherburn, young people aged 7 – 11 are invited to come along to their local library to experience books being brought to life through a fantastic workshop combining high quality music and storytelling. The musicians delivering these workshops are Bella Tromba, Sax Ecosse, Meridian, Michael Haywood & Laura Grime and Emma Wilkins & Helen Macleod, who between them play instruments ranging from the harp to trumpets and percussion. There is also an instrument making workshop at the beginning of each session where the young people can make their own instruments to include in the workshop.
The NYMAZ Musical Storytimes week happens from 27th – 31st July in 43 towns and villages through North Yorkshire, due to the popularity of these sessions booking is essential and can be done through your local library. Go to www.nymaz.org.uk for a full list of what events are happening where and more information on your local NYMAZ Musical Storytimes session or ask at your local library
