Engaging parents is more than just informing them….
Calling Local Authority Advisers! New ‘FaceBook™’- style technology to help secondary schools meet Government targets for parental engagement
Event: Local Authority Briefing Day on Parental Engagement
Date: Tuesday 17th March 2009, Time: 0930-1530
Venue: The Cumberland Hotel, Great Cumberland Place, London W1A 4RF
Engaging parents is more than just informing them…That is the theme at London’s Local Authority Briefing Day on Parental Engagement to take place on 17th March 2009. Hosted by education technology specialists Frog, Local Authority Advisers across the country are invited to join its team of experts to hear how the FrogParental Engagement Portal is helping schools truly engage with parents, meet the Government’s 2010 real-time reporting targets now and ultimately improve learning for young people.
By September 2010, all secondary schools will be required to provide secure online access to information on their child’s progress, achievement, attendance, behaviour and special educational needs, anytime, anywhere. In order for this to be successful, however, Frog is urging LAs to provide a genuinely engaging experience for parents.
Giving parents a ‘FaceBook™’ for education – the portal has been designed to ‘engage’ parents first and foremost. Its easy-to-use interface, similar to today’s popular social networking sites, has been created to present everything parents need to know in a familiar format. Built upon the ability for parents to personalise their individual experience, the portal allows them to tailor the way they view information by simply ‘dragging and dropping’ information onto their dashboard page.
The team will be on hand throughout the day to discuss how this technology already meets the Government targets, its real time integration with SIMS (CMIS to follow) and the ability for schools to control which information parents can see.
