ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR, CHILDHOOD STUDIES. As part of an ongoing, multi-year effort to build its growing program, the Department of Childhood Studies, Rutgers University, Camden, New Jersey invites applications for as many as three faculty positions. One position will be for an Associate or Full Professor and the other two will be for Assistant Professors.
Candidates must be outstanding scholars whose research interests and projects address the lives or contexts of children and childhood. Disciplinary affiliation is of less importance than the quality of a candidate’s research and a demonstrated appreciation for multidisciplinary approaches to the study of children and childhood. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from those whose work addresses the history of childhood, children and education, public policy, and children’s lives in non-Western contexts. Applications are welcome from anthropologists, criminologists, demographers, economists, historians, literary critics, philosophers, political scientists, psychologists, religionists, and sociologists, as well as scholars of American Studies and Gender Studies.
The Department offers BS, MA, and PhD degrees. Childhood Studies is central to the campus’ goals and enjoys the strong financial and intellectual backing of Rutgers University at large. The recently-founded department will continue to grow through the addition of new faculty and students in the coming years.
Rutgers-Camden, a beautiful, urban campus expanding to accommodate the growth of Southern New Jersey, is located just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. The University and Department have a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff, and we strongly encourage applications from women and minorities.
Candidates can learn more about the campus and the Department of Childhood Studies at: http://childhood.camden.rutgers.edu/, and by contacting Department Chair Dr. Lynne Vallone (vallone@rutgers.edu). Applications should include a letter indicating interest, CV, representative publications, and three letters of recommendation (may be sent separately), and should be sent to Dr. Lynne Vallone, Department of Childhood Studies, Rutgers University, Camden, NJ 08102. Electronic submissions are encouraged. The positions will remain open until filled, but completed applications received by October 24, 2008 will receive fullest consideration.
