PEN Learning Exchange: South Downs Learning Centre (Brighton, UK)

Given the the despair and frustration generated by the previous few posts about the schooling system was really delightful to be in the company of people who can offer sanity and insight into the educational world. Some 40 participants met in Brighton on 25th May (see our previous post below). It was marvellous to meet and work with those who are making the South Downs Learning Centre such a great success. (South Downs Learning Centre (Brighton) http://www.thelearningcentre.selfmanagedlearning.org.uk/) This is not just the view of PEN and the SDLC staff, it was articulated by the learners and parents involved. It is also backed up by research.

On behalf of the trustees of PEN I’d like to thank Professor Ian Cunningham, his staff, students and parents for putting on this Learning Exchange. It was an outstanding successs and the first of many Learning Exchanges to take place with practitioners, groups, and institutions within our wider network. This really adds to our work in a number of ways – by networking the network, illustrating practice, by reaching more people in different regions and in advancing our ideas.
