Recycling Schools?
CPE / PEN News and Comment, E-briefing · Tagged: Knowlsey, learning centres, recycling schools
CPE – PEN promote the idea of recycling our schools into invitational, all-age community learning centres. Schools as we know them are well past their sell by date and this is being realised at all levels. Its good to see and acknowledge the tentative steps and more open thinking being taken up. Knowsley LA has taken the decision to replace its 11 secondary schools with Learning Centres.
Kim Thomas writing in the Guardian 26.02.08 noted the centres will ‘be open from 7am to 10pm: children and adults alike will study using leearning platforms, and teachers will be guides rather than instructors.’ Further information can be gained from the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/6654935.stm and The Innovation Unit http://www.innovation-unit.co.uk/projects/next-practice/next-practice-in-system-leadership—knowsley.html
